Chapter Leadership

The RWHRMA chapter elects the officers in November for the following calendar year. It is the incoming president's responsibility to appoint the additional directors serving on the board.

Currently the board consists of 11 voting members and meets the first Wednesday each month to conduct chapter business.

 

Please note, the RWHRMA chapter is 100% volunteer led. There are no paid staff nor is there a central office or phone number. Various volunteers receive and respond to email inquiries but there may be a delay in response due to scheduling conflicts with work or other obligations. We appreciate your understanding and will respond as soon as possible.

President: Will Barfield - Will@barfieldrevenue.com

 

Will is the President & CEO of Barfield Revenue Consulting.  After 13 years on the Frankel Staffing Partners team, Will launched his own practice in May of this year and is focusing primarily on sales talent placement, along with sales coaching, consulting, training and all facets of business tied to revenue. 

An active volunteer with Raleigh-Wake HRMA since 2011, Will worked his way onto the Board by helping to jump-start Raleigh-Wake’s Young Professionals effort, a networking group that has now successfully evolved into our Emerging Leaders program.  Will then joined the Programs Committee, serving as AVP in 2014 and 2015 before taking over as VP of Programs in 2016.  During 2017, Will has held the President Elect role, and his primary focus has been supporting Christy Kim and preparing for his own Presidential year.

Will is very active in the local community, donating his time to several volunteer leadership and outreach capacities beyond Raleigh-Wake.  At present, Will is holding Executive Committee, Board, and/or Fundraising leadership seats for the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, the WakeMed Foundation and Haven House Services.    

A native North Carolinian, Will has lived in the Wake County area since 1991.  He is a 1998 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a BA degree in Journalism and Mass Communication along with a minor in Business.  Will and his wife and business partner, Amy, live in Holly Springs, NC, along with their three daughters, Kirsten, Olivia and Annabella.

 

 

 

President Elect: Rachel Erpenbach, SPHR, SHRM-SCP - rachel.erpenbach@gmail.com

 
Rachel Erpenbach has been an active member of Raleigh-Wake since 2010 and has been involved in various roles in the WorkForce Development Committee, AVP of Membership, and VP of Communications, Marketing, and Sponsorships. She has over 10 years of experience in the HR field with a background in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and construction industries. She earned her Masters in HR at the University of South Carolina and is SPHR and SHRM-SCP certified. Currently Rachel is the Senior HR Business Partner for Kinetics Systems Inc. Rachel is passionate about volunteering with Raleigh-Wake, as well as enjoying time with her friends and family.

Christy has been a member of Raleigh-Wake since 2008. Since joining Raleigh-Wake, she has served in various leadership roles, most recently as the President, and including VP of Programs, AVP of Programs and Monthly Meeting Chair. Christy has over 13 years of experience in HR field/Management. Currently, she works as the Benefits Manager for Epic Games. When not working or volunteering with Raleigh-Wake, Christy enjoys traveling, spending time with family (including her Morkie) and friends, and learning/trying something new...whatever that may be!

 

 

Secretary: Shannon Gardner - sgardner@transenterix.com

 
Shannon is the Director of Human Resources at TransEnterix, an early-stage medical device company based in RTP. In her current role she is responsible for the company’s HR function globally. Before joining TransEnterix Shannon was at Biogen, headquartered in Boston, MA, where she held roles as an HR Business Partner for R&D and Sr. Manager of Talent Development.  Prior to Biogen Shannon spent four years at GE Healthcare starting in their HR Leadership Program and moving into various HR Business Partner roles.

Shannon joined Raleigh-Wake in 2016 soon after relocating to the Raleigh area.  She is originally from Dayton, Ohio and has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Dayton, where she also played college volleyball. After returning from an international assignment in Singapore she earned an MBA in International Business, from the University of South Carolina.  Shannon is a huge fan of traveling and has spent the past 15 years amassing passport stamps from countries all over the world.  When not working or traveling you can find Shannon at home with her family, in the pilates studio or curled up with a good book.

Heather holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and dual Master’s Degrees in Industrial Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management from Appalachian State University. She is a Certified HR professional and has been a member of RWHRMA for 6 years. Currently, she is an HR Advisor at McKesson Specialty Health supporting specialty pharmacy operations in Cary, NC and Fort Worth, TX. She enjoys spending time with her husband and labradoodles, Cash and Otis.

 

 

VP Programs: Kirsten Benzaquen, PHR, MSHRD - kbenzaquen@4implus.com 

 
Kirsten Benzaquen is a Human Resources Ambassador with TrialCard in Morrisville, NC. In this role, she works with internal teams and hiring managers to fulfill internal and external hiring needs, works with hiring managers and teams to refine job descriptions and success profiles as well as manages the onboarding process for new employees. She also provides employee relations support, HR policy guidance, supports supervisors in employees in disciplinary action, develops employee recognition programs, and recommends and provides solutions for continuous improvement within Human Resources.

Growing up as an army child, Kirsten was born in Japan and moved all over the world, but she calls Fayetteville, NC her hometown. In the 6+ years since she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in HR from William Peace University in Raleigh, N.C., Kirsten has advanced her career through HR jobs in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. She has been involved with training and development, total rewards, corporate recruitment, and employee relations. Through it all, she has found opportunities to volunteer her expertise and organizational skills to a wide range of local organizational entities.

In addition to volunteering with Raleigh-Wake Human Resource Management Association as the VP, Programs, Kirsten also serves as President of William Peace University’s Young Alumni Council and as a voting member of the school’s Alumni Board. She obtained her Certified Benefit Professional (CBP) and Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) through World at Work in 2013 and recently obtained her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification through HRCI in July 2015. Kirsten also finished her Master’s Degree in HR Development in May, 2017 and was named one of HR’s 30 Under 30 by HR Magazine. 

Kirsten currently resides in Durham, NC and enjoys playing with her dogs, traveling, music, reading, exercising, and spending time with the people she loves.   

 

 

VP Community: Derrick Krueger, GPHR, SHRM-CP -

Derrick has been a member of Raleigh-Wake since 2010 and is currently serving as AVP of Community. He has previously served as Treasurer for the chapter and has over 14 years’ professional HR experience. Derrick is currently the Associate Director Human Resources North America for Umicore, a Belgian-based materials technology & recycling company. He holds an undergraduate degree in International Business & German from Concordia University Wisconsin and a Master’s in Human Resources Development from Villanova. He also has his GPHR and SHRM-SCP certifications. He lives in “North” Raleigh with his wife Heather and their son Mason and spends much of his free time trying to make others laugh with his exceptionally corny humor.

 

 

 

VP Communications: Catherine Bullock, PHR, SHRM-CP - catherine.bullock@unchealth.unc.edu

 
Catherine has been a member of Raleigh-Wake since 2014 and during this time has served on both the Community and Communications Committees including her most recent role as AVP for Communications.  Catherine graduated from NCSU with a BS in Business and a concentration in HR and received her MBA from Campbell University.   She is currently a Senior HR Consultant with UNC REX Healthcare and was previously an HR Manager with Duke University.  Catherine lives in Fuquay-Varina with her husband Sam and their pup Rosco.  

 

 

 

VP Membership: Kimberly Rogov, SPHR, SHRM-SCP - kimberly.rogov@gmail.com

 
Kimberly has been the Director of Human Resources for Alliance of Professionals & Consultants, Inc. since 2014.   She has over 20 years of experience in Human Resources spanning industries including Retail, Financial, Automotive, Associations, Real Estate/Property Management, and Staffing/Professional Services. 

She has taught Business Communications & Ethics and HR Management courses at a national university, and ran her own HR consulting business before moving to North Carolina in 2013.  Kimberly has been an active member with Raleigh-Wake HRMA since 2014, served as a volunteer mentor in 2016, and both mentor and AVP of Membership in 2017. 

Kimberly holds a Master’s Degree in HR from Rollins College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Pace University, and is SHRM-SCP and SPHR certified. She is married, and has three daughters (Annika, Abigail, and Alisa).  Kimberly is passionate about healthy work-life balance, and in her free time she enjoys blogging, nature walks with her family, and dabbling in social media. 

 

 

Board Member at Large: Brent Plunkett - brent@charterwm.com

 

Brent Plunkett is the Founder and CEO of Charter Wealth Management, a fee only investment advisory firm headquartered in Raleigh that works with families, corporations, and foundations across the nation.  Brent is a graduate of NC State University and lives in north Raleigh with his wife Jesse, and two children Ali and Calvin.  Brent is an active member of RWHRMA serving as the VP of Programs for 2017.  In addition to his work with RWHRMA Brent is active in the community serving on the board of the American Red Cross of the Triangle, the Board of Governors at the City Club Raleigh, the WakeMed Foundation Development Committee, the Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation finance committee, and founded the National Public Affairs Forum at the City Club Raleigh.

 

 

Board Member at Large: Christin Johnson, PHR, SHRM-CP - christinkiel@gmail.com

 

Christin has a passion for creating highly efficient organizations that employees truly enjoy being a part of. This passion has led her through a dynamic career in HR, supporting high tech and consulting firms, primarily through startup and high growth phases. In 2015, Christin launched an independent HR consultancy, iStartupHR, where she serves as the Principal People Whisperer, helping small businesses to achieve operational excellence by addressing a wide array of HR topics. As a graduate of UNC-Greensboro, Christin holds bachelor’s degrees in both Political Science and Communication Studies, as well as PHR and SHRM-CP certifications. Since 2008, Christin has been an active volunteer and board member with Raleigh-Wake HR Management Association, the largest SHRM affiliate Chapter in NC, serving in various roles including VP of Membership, VP of Communications, and President. When she is not working, she enjoys traveling the world with her husband, Dave Johnson, wilderness backpacking, yoga, cooking, and playing with her fur children, Oliver and Cody.

Joshua is originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moved to the Triangle are in 2008.  He received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in St. Augustine, Florida.  Josh owns PT at Work, a company that provides on-site physical therapy and wellness programs to employers.  As volunteer director, Josh helps members find opportunities within the chapter to volunteer and connect with both the community and other HR professionals.When not working, Josh enjoys playing drums, basketball, and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Aaron Martin has worked as a professional in human resources for over 19 years, including leadership positions with national and international restaurant chains, retailers and not-for-profit organizations. He is PHR certified and holds a Strategic Human Resource Practices certification from Cornell University. Aaron currently works as an HR Business Partner for ADP. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA degree in Communication Studies. Aaron is married to his wife Nicole and they have two children and a pet miniature schnauzer.

 

 

Governmental Affairs Director: Regina Calabro-

Gina concentrates her practice on discrimination and harassment matters, wage and hour claims, and noncompetition and trade secret litigation.  Gina regularly counsels businesses on all aspects of employment law, from recruiting and hiring through termination.  She assists clients in drafting policies and procedures and often trains management and non-management personnel on topics such as wage and hour compliance, harassment prevention, and disability awareness and accommodation.  Gina is an experienced litigator who has represented employers before federal and state courts, numerous government administrative agencies and arbitration panels in single plaintiff, multi-plaintiff and class and collective action litigation.   

 

 

SHRM Foundation Director: Kristen Azarelo - kristen.azarelo@am.umicore.com

 

Kristen graduated from Appalachian State University as a Division I Varsity Cross Country Athlete with a BSBA concentrating in Human Resource Management and minoring in International Business. She recently became a member of Raleigh-Wake when she joined Umicore USA Inc. as their Compensation and Benefits Analyst in 2017. Kristen is very passionate about engaging and educating employees on improving their wellbeing through wellness challenges and seminars which fits perfectly with her active lifestyle. In her free time she enjoys hiking with her dog Dex, finding extremely difficult ultra-marathons to run, cooking, yoga, and volunteering at the local animal shelters.
