Community Service Volunteering

One of the key values of our organization is “to share our skills, talents, and abilities to benefit the communities in which we live and work.”  RWHRMA offers several opportunities for members to share their time and expertise, regardless of years in the profession or time available.  Most volunteers find that they gain more than they give.

Raleigh-Wake Annual Food Drive

May 1st - June 30th

In partnership with NCSHRM and every SHRM chapter in NC, our chapter has partnered with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern, NC for our annual food drive this May 1st –June 30st. This year we are doing a virtual food drive! In this model, every dollar donated translates into 5 meals due to the Food Bank’s purchasing power and donating is incredibly easy! All you have to do is click this link browse the "aisles" to select items to add to your shopping cart and then click to make a donation! If you decide to search the site for our food drive, please search “Raleigh Wake” as the first name and “HRMA” as the last name under search for a participant.

We do this during May and June because the summer months are the months that the food bank sees the fewest donations and kids don’t have access to school lunches. Every dollar helps…..

The State Council also has several incentives for chapters;

  • $1,000.00 to the non-profit organization for the chapter that donates the largest poundage of food per active member (total pounds donated divided by the number of active members as of 6/30)
  •  $1,000.00 to the non-profit organization for the chapter that donates the largest poundage of food (total pounds donated as of 6/30)
  •  $400.00 to the non-profit organization of the chapter that introduced the best innovation to the overall program.

Join Raleigh-Wake in Supporting our Coat Drive!

RWHRMA is warming up for winter!

It is that time of year again—the time to prepare for the cold days of winter. The Coat Drive Team is gearing up to ensure this year’s initiative is a success for our chapter. In each previous year, RWHRMA has exceeded its goal of donating 100 coats, and we want to keep it going! This year RWHRMA will be partnering with The Salvation Army of Wake County to warmly embrace children and adults during the cold season. Their Coat Distribution Program “strives to ensure that every child in Wake County has a coat to keep them warm” and they “also serve adults who need warm clothing during the winter months.”  Donations can be new or gently-used coats, or new scarves, hats, and gloves. The Salvation Army’s program depends on donations to meet this need.

RWHRMA will be collecting winter coats and accessories at upcoming monthly meetings on October 16 and November 13. Donating will be easy—save the date to bring your donation, and place items in the boxes/bins provided by the Coat Drive Team. If you have any questions on donating a coat or organizing a coat collection at your company, please contact Melissa at
