Chapter Volunteers
Volunteers Needed for RWHRMA Committees!

Getting Involved

Getting involved with Raleigh-Wake means you are joining a team of highly motivated HR professionals. This networking will enhance your membership experience. Professional & personal demands often place limitations on volunteer participation, so Raleigh-Wake has volunteer opportunities ranging from short-term commitments to positions with varying term or time commitments.

As a 100% volunteer lead chapter, over 100 individuals donate their time and energy in serving our RWHRMA membership. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered your time to bring us quality programs!

If you would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities and are available to assist, please contact the Volunteer Director, Josh Foster

Opportunities within RWHRMA

We are looking for volunteers like YOU! Here are some key areas of need within the chapter.  All teams can always use more support but here are some positions that need to be filled immediately.

     - Community Service Team: Coat Drive Chair

     - Membership Team: Social Chair

     - Programs/Communications Teams: WebEx Ambassador (seeking on-site support at

monthly chapter meetings; requires average level of tech savviness!)

     - Community Team: Military Liaison (We are working with a few agencies and have some new resources available to help transitioning service members find jobs in the civilian world.  This is meaningful and fulfilling work that will be greatly appreciated by our Chapter and community!)

If you are interested in these or any opportunities please contact the Volunteer Director, Josh Foster

Small Business Group

In collaboration with The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, Raleigh Wake will be holding a series of workshops held quarterly at the Chamber for businesses leaders and HR professionals. The dates will be February 13, 2018, April 17, 2018 and August 14, 2018.

If you are interested in assisting with the coordination, please contact Cindy Heath

Raleigh Rescue Mission

Raleigh Rescue Mission is currently holding its Jobs for Life Classes. They need our help with cover letters/resumes, and mock interviews.

Volunteers needed to coach some of their clients one on one. The classes they would like our involvement will be February 20, 22, 27, and March 1st, they meet from 7pm-9pm.  They would also appreciate volunteers to coach some of their clients one on one during a date later in March.

If you’re interested in supporting Raleigh Rescue Mission, please contact our Raleigh Rescue Mission Liaison, Leatha Ritchie.

Xtreme Beginnings 2018 - Volunteers Needed!

Xtreme Beginnings, a School-To-Career project endorsed by RWHRMA and the Wake County Public School System, is seeking volunteers to help with our 18th annual initiative. This event is for WCPSS 10th and 11th graders and approximately 750 students will be in attendance.

Date: Tuesday, March 27, 2018
Location: NCSU McKimmon Center
Time: 8:45 – 12:00

We are in need of approximately 100 practice interviewers who would be willing to help with practice interviews. A practice interview provides students with an opportunity to test out their interview skills with someone who is not evaluating them for an actual job. Students are interviewed for approximately 20 minutes from a professional who can provide them with feedback on whether or not their responses are suitable and also provide tips on their resume.

To register for this event, please complete the online registration form by going to

Registration DEADLINE is Wednesday, March 21, 2018.

Food Drive

Calling on ALL Members to Help Us Feed the Needy: This year our chapter will again join all the SHRM chapters across the state in Feed NC! The chapter collecting the most food per member will be recognized by NC SHRM and we need your help coming out on top. Our Food Drive will take place during May and June.

North Carolina has the 8th highest rate of food insecurity in the nation, meaning over 630,000 households don't have enough to eat.  Many of these individuals are children, senior citizens, and disabled adults. YOU can make a difference: by making a contribution, asking friends and family for contributions, or best of all-hosting a Food Drive at your organization. We’re going to make it easy for you-stay tuned for details on how to Feed NC in the upcoming weeks.

Please contact Paul Corsa if you are interested in learning more.  We are looking for at least 3 volunteers.

Day in the District

NCSHRM’s annual Day in the District event is a free event and the date, times and locations will be provided as those details are confirmed.

If you have any questions about the event or are interested in volunteering, please contact Holly Hammer, RWHRMA’s Governmental Affairs Director.

As part of our annual fundraiser for the SHRM Foundation, RWHRMA hosts a 5K and fun run fundraiser. The goal is to help our local community while also benefiting the broader HR community. We contribute a portion of our funds each year to a local charity. This year we are again working with Dress for Success Triangle (DFST). Dress for Success Triangle aims to empower women who have overcome many barriers to prepare and find a new job that will better position them in their career as well as achieve economic independence and find employment.

Many volunteers are needed to help with the 6th Annual SHRM Foundation 5K on June 23, 2018. Planning committee members are needed as well as day of volunteers.  Please contact Kristen Azarelo, SHRM Foundation Director if you are interested in learning more.

Please contact Kristy Dixon if you are interested in volunteering or learning more about the event taking place in July 2018.

Volunteers are needed to join the planning committee for the 2016 RWHRMA SHRM Foundation Fun Run 5K and the RWHRMA Family Fun Day on June 25th!

Are you organized and experienced with planning events? Do you have community contacts to help us gain sponsorship? Are you able to help market our run in a large grassroots effort?  Our annual Fun Run 5K continues to grow each year and this year it will be timed! We hope
to have a compelling ground force to get all runners/walkers and all around active individuals participating in our event! In addition to our annual Fun Run 5K, we hope to host a “Family/Community Fun Day.” This plan is still very early in the works, all ideas and inputs are welcome. We are leaning towards picnic, booths, games, and more! But we need your help! Please contact Danielle Check-Smith if you are interested in helping.
