Program Description:

In today’s uncertain economy and labor market employers need to rethink compensation models to attract, reward, and retain top talent.  Previously this involved compensation plans or retirement programs that can cost the company money, however, more than ever, designing a corporate engagement strategy to change and support the company culture can make just as big of an impact. Engagement in the workplace is continually adapting and progressing, as new population needs, challenges, and interests evolve. As interest in culture formation rises, so does the market for new, innovative strategies to engage employees. With a field so densely populated, it can be difficult for employers to weed through effective strategies versus ineffective, cost-savings versus unnecessary spending, and unproductive solutions versus those that provide a return on investment. 

 

In this session attendees will learn:

·         How to design engagement programs that reflect, enhance, and/or change company culture

·         Attract and retain talent with new emergent trends in compensation and wellness

·         Implement effective strategies that focus on cost avoidance and ROI/VOI

·         Compliance insights and pitfalls to minimize company legal liability

 

The goal of providing a structured, multi-faceted engagement strategy is to improve company culture and employee engagement, which will in turn create a value on investment and cost-savings effect for a company's overall business success. The key is to know where to start, how to align/enhance company culture, and determine what truly works. Through this session, we will provide guidance on these topics and many more.

 

About the presenters:

Rebecca Schusler, MSEd, CHES

Rebecca (Becca) Schusler is a Senior Benefits Consultant serving the MidSouth Region with a focus in Population Health Management for USI located in Charlotte, NC.

Becca has over 15 years of health education and consulting experience. Becca returned to USI in March of 2018, after working as a Health & Productivity Consultant for the acquired company, Wells Fargo Insurance, from 2011-2015.

Through data analysis and interpretation, Becca assists employers in identifying and understanding the unique medical conditions within their populations, and the impact of health on their workforce’s productivity, health plan costs, and profitability. This analysis is the first step toward building a customized solution to meet each company’s needs. The assessment and oversight of health and wellness initiatives is used as part of an employer’s total population health management strategy. She evaluates and recommends appropriate solution providers during pre- and post-program implementation and consults with these providers and insurance carriers to assist with program selection and management.

Becca earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Oswego in Wellness Management and her Master of Science degree in Education from the State University of New York at Brockport in Health Education and Promotion. She holds a National Health Education Specialist Certification (CHES). Prior to joining USI, Becca worked as a health education teacher, a health education specialist for a workplace wellness vendor, and spent five years as a lecturer, grant writer, and program planner for students at both the State University of New York at Brockport and The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Becca is a member of the Society for Public Health Education in North Carolina and the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.

Becca resides in Huntersville, NC with her husband and two young children. In her leisure time, Becca enjoys running, hiking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

 

Michael L. Schenk, Esq., CEBS

Michael Schenk is a Senior Compliance Consultant for USI Insurance Services (USI), serving our Midsouth Region. His responsibilities include assisting with the benefits compliance function in support of the Region’s USI professionals with respect to the Affordable Care Act, ERISA, tax, and other legal compliance needs of their clients’ health and welfare benefit plans.

Prior to joining USI (formerly Wells Fargo Insurance) in June 2009, Michael worked for 12 years in the employee benefits practices of a large national law firm as well as a large Carolinas-based firm.

Michael has extensive experience relating to the compliance, design, drafting, and training support for all types of health and welfare, and fringe benefit plans, as well as tax-qualified and nonqualified retirement plans.

He has a J.D., cum laude, and a B.B.A. in Finance. He is a frequent public speaker on the ACA and various other employee benefits topics.
