May 2020 Monthly Meeting: Legislative Update

Program Information:

SHRM’s Government Affairs has developed the SHRM Advocacy Team (the “A-Team”) as a way to assist HR Advocates in making their voices heard on public policy issues impacting the workplace. The goal of the A-Team is to educate lawmakers in Washington and in state capitals across the country, helping them understand the role HR plays in today’s workplace and the crucial issues impacting the workforce, and to advocate and communicate to legislatures how workplace policy affects employees and employers. This session will:

  • Discuss the types of advocacy engaged in by the A-Team
  • Report on SHRM’s national Advocacy at Work conference held in March and NC SHRM’s Day in the District held in May
  • Provide you with information on how you can become involved in our Government Affairs team

Gina Calabro is Raleigh Metro’s Governmental Affairs Director and is an attorney with the Raleigh office of Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak and Stewart. She has practiced labor and employment law for over 20 years. Gina concentrates her practice on discrimination and harassment matters, wage and hour claims, and non-competition and trade secret litigation. Gina regularly counsels businesses on all aspects of employment law, from recruiting and hiring through termination.

This event is pending for one hour of General credit with HRCI and SHRM.
