The role of a fiduciary in a retirement plan is often misunderstood while the burden on plan sponsors to effectively monitor their plans increases.  In 2016 the Employee Benefit Security Administration (EBSA) received 193,669 informal complaints against employee benefit plans and closed 2,002 cases.  These complaints and the cases initiated by EBSA lead to $777.5 million in recoveries for plan participants and the conviction of 96 individuals.

The presentation will help HR professionals understand their fiduciary responsibility and focus on how to implement a fiduciary process in your company retirement plan.  Key takeaways will be:

  • Who is a fiduciary
  • How to limit fiduciary responsibility
  • Implementing a fiduciary process
  • Proper documentation
