Contingent workers are no longer just temporary workers. They now include freelancers, independent contractors, consultants, and “side-giggers.”  Millenials are looking for ways to utilize their skills, be creative, and set their own schedules while maintaining a work-life balance.  Many organizations have allowed their employees to work remotely and found that teamwork suffers and productivity actually decreases. This program will discuss the benefits and risks of a contingent workforce.  

Participants will leave with a much greater understanding of strategies to immediately implement working with a contingent workforce.

Speaker: With over thirty years of operations and human resource experience at McLaurin Parking Company, Kristy Dixon has worked as a practitioner and professor of human resources. Her expertise particularly spans into employee relations, training and development, recruitment and staffing, and compliance.  


As one of the owners of McLaurin Parking Company, Kristy developed a sense of strategic critical thinking to help build the company into one of the largest parking companies in the southeast. While President of McLaurin, Kristy was also an Assistant Professor at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC for sixteen years. She taught various human resource classes such as Compensation & Benefits, Employee Relations, Training & Development, Staffing, HR Management, and HR Audit.  

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a major in Business Administration, Kristy has her Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Meredith College.  She received her SPHR certification (Senior Professional in Human Resources) in 1996.

Kristy is active in a number of civic and professional organizations.  She has served as the President of the Raleigh-Wake Human Resource Management Association and Chairman of the Raleigh Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities. She is currently the Chair of the HR Committee for the Better Business Bureau of Eastern North Carolina.
