Executive Service Corps of the Triangle needs a few good people.

 

You could make a positive impact on your community as a pro bono consultantto local nonprofit organizations in as little as five hours per week.

 

 

What is ESC?

Executive Service Corps of the Triangle (esctriangle.org) is a nonprofit organization that helps other nonprofits in the Triangle achieve their missions.We provide consulting services to more than 60 organizations a year through a team of diverse, volunteer consultants. We are privileged to serve clients in Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake counties.

What will I gain from being a volunteer consultant?

You have an opportunity to leverage and grow your professional skills and experience.You will be making a significant difference to nonprofits in our community, while working collegially with other professionals and developing new skills.

What skills or background do I need to be a volunteer consultant?

If you have leadership or management experience, or specialized professional skills in areas like marketing, finance or human resources, our clients need your expertise.

Most of our consultants work part time, are retired or have flexible hours. You should be prepared to work at least five hours per week during a client engagement, with most of the hours occurring during the business week. Typically, you would be paired with a senior consultant for your first few projects so that you can learn the ropes while immediately providing value to our clients.

We look for the following qualifications in our consultants:

  • An ability to work well with a diverse group of people and types of business
  • Strong communication skills: listening, writing, speaking and presenting
  • Leadership skills and experience
  • Genuine interest in helping nonprofits succeed and respect for the work they do
  • Experience with project delivery
  • Creative and analytical thinking
  • Able and willing to commit the time needed (average of 3-5 hours per week) and work with limited resources
  • Basic technical skills: email & Word required; PowerPoint helpful

We provide you with training, management tools and processes, and support to help you be successful.Typically, you would be paired with a senior consultant for your first few projects so that you can learn the ropes, while immediately providing value to our clients.

What is a typical consulting engagement like?

A typical consulting engagement may last a few weeks to several months, depending on the type of services being provided and the needs of the client. Working in teams, we assess client needs, develop a work plan and facilitate the process to help clients achieve the results they want.

  • Board retreat facilitation
  • Communications and marketing
  • Financial assessment
  • Executive coaching
  • Human resources development

Our clients are passionate about their work, but often need consulting help that they simply cannot afford.That's where you come in.
